KATHMANDU: The Upper Balephi Hydropower Project, operating under the Energy Business of Golyan Group, has formally entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
The agreement was signed on Tuesday by NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising and Upper Balephi Hydropower Chairman Umesh Kasaju. The proposed 46 MW run-of-river hydropower project is slated for development along the Balephi River in Sindhupalchowk District, Bagmati Province.
Situated approximately 126 km northeast of the capital and 40 km north of the Arniko Highway, the hydropower project boasts a gross head of 438.5 m and a design discharge of 12.70 cubic meters per second. Projections indicate the generation of 86.019 GWh of dry energy and 188.69 GWh of wet energy.
As part of Golyan Group’s commitment to renewable energy, the project aligns with their broader goal of contributing 900 MW to the country’s sustainable energy portfolio over the next decade.
In addition to its ventures in renewable energy, the Golyan Group, as outlined in a press statement, maintains a diverse business portfolio encompassing agriculture, construction, hospitality, financial services, and manufacturing sectors.
