KATHMANDU: In an extraordinary accomplishment, Norwegian climber Kristin Harila and Nepali guide Tenjen (Lama) Sherpa have successfully scaled Mount K2, the second highest peak in the world.
The Seven Summit Treks Company confirmed that Harila and Sherpa triumphantly reached the summit of Mount K2 (8,611 meters) in Pakistan at 10:45 AM today.
Remarkably, Harila and Sherpa have managed to conquer all 14 mountains above 8,000 meters in just three months. Minga Sherpa, the managing director of the company, expressed their awe-inspiring achievement, highlighting that they completed this monumental task in an incredibly short span of time. Notably, in 2019, climber Nirmal Purja set the fastest summit record for all 14 peaks in six months and six days.
The duo set out with the ambitious goal of climbing all 14 eight-thousanders within four months. Harila had previously achieved the feat of scaling 14 mountains higher than 8,000 meters in one year and five days, becoming the fastest female climber to do so.
In this extraordinary journey, Harila and Sherpa conquered Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum-2, Gasherbrum-1, Broad Peak, and now, Mount K2. Their remarkable accomplishment has undoubtedly etched their names in the annals of mountaineering history.
