KATHMANDU: A major milestone has been achieved as the testing phase of the 40 MW Upper Chameliya Hydroelectric Project commenced successfully. The project, strategically situated on the Chameliya River along the borders of Darchula and Baitadi, is poised to make a significant contribution to Nepal’s energy landscape.
Sanjib Neupane, the esteemed managing director of the company overseeing the project, joyfully announced the initiation of testing activities on Friday.
The process began with the controlled release of water from the dam constructed in Kimbagad, Marma Rural Municipality-1, Darchula, flowing six kilometers downstream to the power house located in Marma Rural Municipality-2, Ghattigadh.
With utmost precision and dedication, the project’s key components underwent meticulous testing to ensure flawless functionality.
Notably, the 6,100-meter long penstock pipeline, three turbines, generators, and other essential equipment passed all tests with flying colors. On Friday, a significant moment arrived as water cascaded onto the turbines, signifying the start of testing for the power plant.
Following the successful completion of the testing phase, the project is gearing up to generate electricity for trial purposes, slated to commence from Saturday onwards.
Once seamlessly connected to the national transmission line through the substation at Balach, the project will progress towards commercial production in an estimated two weeks. As a remarkable feat, the official inauguration ceremony for the project is scheduled to take place today, Sunday.
The construction company, proudly sharing the achievements of this grand endeavor, reported that the Upper Chameliya Hydroelectric Project was completed within an impressive timeline of just 30 months, demonstrating the unparalleled dedication and efficiency of the team.
With a total investment of Rs 8 billion, the successful completion of the project marks a significant step towards harnessing Nepal’s vast hydropower potential and fostering sustainable economic growth.
Once operational, the 40 MW Upper Chameliya Hydroelectric Project will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in bolstering Nepal’s energy security and reducing its dependence on imported electricity.
As the nation endeavors to achieve its development goals and provide reliable power supply to its citizens and industries, projects like these are crucial for propelling the country towards a brighter and more sustainable future.
