KATHMANDU, MAY 31: The controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill has been certified by President Ram Chandra Paudel.
According to the Office of the President, President Paudel approved the bill on Wednesday.
President Paudel decided to certify the bill shortly after meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is departing the nation today for a four-day official visit to India.
Although the meeting was reportedly held to inform President Paudel about his visit to India, sources claim Prime Minister Dahal pleaded with the president to certify the bill.
On May 26, the government asked President Paudel to certify the Bill, which had been long-delayed by the previous president, Bidya Devi Bhandari. The bill has stirred up debate because some political parties are against it.
