KATHMANDU: The world record holder for the most ascents on the highest peak, legendary climber Kami Rita Sherpa, has scaled Mount Everest for the 28th time.
Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, the director of Seven Summit Treks, reported that he reached the summit of Mount Everest at 9:23 am and informed from base camp that this is his second ascent of Everest this season.
On May 17, he had conquered the highest peak in the world for the 27th time overall and for the first time this year.
With this ascent, Kami Rita overtook Pasang Dawa Sherpa, who on Monday became the 27th person to stand atop Mount Everest. Pasang Dawa Sherpa had matched Kami Rita on his second ascent of the year.
On May 13, 1994, Kami Rita, a Senior Climbing Guide at Seven Summit Treks Pvt Ltd, successfully scaled Mount Everest for the first time.
He summited the peak 27 times between 1994 and 2023, as well as K2 and Lhotse once each, Manaslu three times, and Cho Oyu eight times.
