KATHMANDU: Today is Bikram Sambat (2080), the new year. In Nepal, people are exchanging greetings and making a big deal out of Baisakh 1, the first day of the New Year 2080 BS.
According to Dr. Madhav Bhattarai, chairman of the Rastriya Dharma Shava, the Bikram Sambat is an eternal calendar because it is timed to the motion and state of the sun.
Additionally, he claimed that Bikram Sambat combines the advantages of the Gregorian Calendar with those of Shak Sambat. After the Kali Yuga had been in existence for 3,044 years, the BS was introduced.
People reflect on the previous year and make goals for the coming one on New Year’s Day.
The homes are made tidy and clean, and greetings are given to family members, friends, and coworkers. Similar to that, delicious specialties are prepared. The first of Baisakh is observed as the New Year by Nepalis living anywhere in the world.
