KATHMANDU: Voting in the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) election has resumed after a brief break. A protest by some voters and supporters at the polling place caused the polls to be called off.
When the supporters of the senior candidate began hooting and pleading for votes, the voting was temporarily suspended.
The election committee representatives arrived, dispersed the rioters, and boosted security at polling place Pragya Bhawan before voting could resume.
Due to a lack of technical preparation, the voting to elect a new working committee (2080-2083) of the FNCCI, which was scheduled to begin at 8AM today, began two hours later.
In accordance with the FNCCI statute, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, the current senior vice president, will automatically succeed Chandra Prasad Dhakal as president of the federation for a period of three years following the general assembly.
Three candidates are vying for the position of senior vice president: Ramchandra Sanghai, Umesh Lal Shrestha, and Anjan Shrestha.
Commodity Vice Presidents Ramchandra Sanghai and Anjan Shrestha, as well as former Vice President Umesh Lal Shrestha, are all competing with their respective panels.
