KATHMANDU: This year, 197 people have been given permission by the government to climb Mount Everest in the spring.
These climbers, who are representatives of 20 mountaineering expedition teams, have been granted permission to ascend the highest peak in the world, according to the Department of Tourism (DoT). 31 women make up these teams.
Tourism business owners claimed that this year has seen a noticeable percent increase in the number of people who want to climb Mount Everest.
460 people took out permits to climb the Nepali Himalayas this season, according to Bigyan Koirala, a DoT official, who was involved in 55 mountaineering expeditions. By issuing these permits, the government has raked in royalties worth Rs 280 million.
