KATHMANDU: One person died while 10 people were rescued safely from the avalanche that hit Mt Manaslu base camp III in North Gorkha on Monday morning.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kedar Khanal of the District Police Office, Gorkha, said that the deceased was Anup Rai of Sankhuwasabha.
He said that preparations are being made to repatriate Rai’s dead body from the base camp and take it to the Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.
SP Khanal said that 10 other people who were caught in the avalanche were rescued safely. He said that four people were rescued by late Monday and six more were rescued Tuesday morning.
SP Khanal also said the rescue team that reached the incident site by helicopter this morning rescued Nima Dorje Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa, Furita Sherpa, Lakpa Tamang, Nima Sherpa and Furte Sherpa and brought them to Samagaon.
