KATHMANDU: The preparations for the fourth edition of the Nepal Infrastructure Summit to be held in Kathmandu is completed. The summit is starts from Thursday under the joint initiative of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Confederation of Nepali Industry.
At the Nepal Infrastructure Summit, in-depth discussion on green, climate, uplifting infrastructure projects that help to achieve sustainable development goals and attract private investment in the infrastructure sector, identifying the major obstacles to infrastructure development including transportation, energy, urban development, drinking water and sanitation, promises and reforms made by the government for infrastructure development, There is infrastructure for developing the theme of the conference.
After the infrastructure conference in 2019, the economic growth of Nepal shrank by 2.37 percent in 2076 BS and 2077 BS due to Covid-19. The world faced a severe supply disruption as economic activities came to a standstill worldwide. Nepal has set a target to achieve an economic growth of 8 percent in the fiscal years 2079 BS and 2080BS .
Investment in infrastructure is mandatory to achieve post-Covid-19 incentives and high economic growth. The Nepal Infrastructure Summit said that it believes that investing in infrastructure is the best condition by focusing on economic revival and green infrastructure.
Similarly, the conference will revive the concept of policy reform on new financial frameworks, foreign direct investment, more involvement of the private sector, technology and digital transformation. There will be an in-depth discussion among national and international infrastructure experts, investors, representatives of all three levels of government, and representatives of the private sector on issues such as investment promotion for infrastructure, successful practices of infrastructure development, and obstacles to the development of the infrastructure sector.
In various sessions of the conference, former prime ministers, federal government ministers, provincial chief ministers, metropolitan mayors, National Planning Commission, Nepal Rastra Bank, Asian Development Bank, World Bank and recipients will make presentations. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Confederation of Nepali Industries are the co-organizers of the Nepal Infrastructure Summit, which includes the Investment Board Nepal and the Nepali construction community.
