KATHMANDU: Majority of commercial banks in the country have failed to maintain the credit-deposit (CD) ratio obligation of the Nepal Rastra Bank. Of 27 commercial banks in Nepal, CD ratio of 18 is above 90 percent.
Banks have cited the lack of deposit growth to rise in CD ration. In line with the Monetary Policy, NRB had issued a directive in August asking the banks and financial institutions to maintain the CD ratio up to 90 percent.
However, the central bank has given mid-July time to bring down the CD ratio under 90 percent. Until mid-July, banks will be able to calculate debentures and refinancing in the CD ratio as deposits.
