KATHAMNDU: The government has temporarily banned the import of non-essential goods including liquor, tobacco and mobile phones, among others in a bid to address depleting foreign exchange reserve.
According to the details published in the Nepal Gazette by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the import of luxury goods has been banned in Nepal till the end of the current fiscal year.
- Products like Kurkure, Kurmure and Lays, among others.
- All kinds of finished (branded) liquors
- Cigarettes and tobacco products (raw materials are exempt)
- Diamonds (exemption for import of industrial raw materials)
- Mobile set
- Color television (over 32 inches)
- Jeeps, cars and vans (available for ambulance and hearse)
- Motorcycles with a capacity of more than 250 cc
- All kinds of toys
- Playing cards
