KATHMANDU: Congress leaders have proposed to replace Finance Minister Janardan Sharma in a coalition led by top leaders of the ruling party.
The proposal was made by the Nepali Congress leaders on Monday at a meeting attended by CPN-Maoist Central Committee Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
“The finance minister belongs to your party. Because this is a coalition government. Call him back and send another person to the finance minister immediately, ”said Ram Sharn Mahat, spokes for Nepali Congress.
Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has been criticized for suspending governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) last week. Moreover, questions are being raised on the Finance Minister on his failure to give momentum to the economy.
During the meeting, UCPN (M) Chairman Dahal also said that discussions would be held within the party as there was a need to change some of the current ministers as their performance was not satisfactory.
Some Maoist leaders were also in internal discussions on the issue on Monday and Tuesday too.
Following the government’s decision to suspend Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari, Finance Minister Sharma has also been demanded to resign.
It is said that this issue will also be discussed in today’s coalition meeting.
