Ncell awarded with two World Communication Awards

KATHMANDU: Ncell Axiata Limited has been awarded with the prestigious World Communication Awards 2021 (WCA) under ‘The Social Contribution Award’ and ‘Crisis Response Award’ categories. The winners were announced at this year’s Total Telecom Congress event held on October 26 in London.

Launched in 1999, the WCAs recognise innovation and excellence across the global telecoms industry and are revered across the sector. These awards highlight Ncell’s contribution towards the society through its social initiatives under corporate social responsibility (CSR) and efforts that the company has put forth in response of crisis such as flood, earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘The Social Contribution Award’ was presented to Ncell for its remarkable contribution for the sustainable development of the society via numerous social initiatives including in its focus area—Health, Education and Environment, supporting the government towards achieving the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Similarly, the ‘Crisis Response Award’ was given to Ncell for its continuous support to communities and the government in the COVID-19 response, earthquake 2015 and massive floods of 2014 and 2017. The Crisis Response Award was launched for the first time which Ncell managed to win among hundreds of record entries.

In accepting the wins under the two categories at the WCA 2021, Andy Chong, CEO of Ncell expressed his gratitude on receiving the awards. “We are truly honoured to receive the prestigious World Communication Awards 2021 under the two categories. For ‘The Social Contribution Award’, Avaroa Cable – Connecting and transforming one of the remotest nations on earth, Indosat Ooredoo – IDCamp, Ncell Axiata Nepal, Orange Group – A Little Help, PLDT and Smart #NoLearnerLeftBehind, and Polycab India were shortlisted. Likewise, Airtel Uganda and Comviva, Amdocs, Content Guru, Ncell Axiata Limited, Ooredoo, Openreach were shortlisted for the ‘Crisis Response Award’.

Recently, Ncell was also conferred the title of ‘Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards 2021’ during the 12th edition of Asia’s Best Employer Brand Awards.The awards hosted by the Employer Branding Institute, World HRD Congress & Stars of the Industry Group recognise organizations from the Asia region that have used marketing communications effectively in attracting talent, retaining talent, developing talent, and in the retention policy.

Similarly, Ncell and Dailog Axiata along with other partners had also won ‘TM Forum Catalyst Team Award 2021’ for Sustainability leadership for the outstanding work on ‘Measurement of Trust in AI Environment’. TM Forum’s Catalyst Awards recognize the world’s leading companies for their outstanding proof-of-concept solutions to challenges facing communications service providers and their technology partners. The sustainability leadership recognizes the project that demonstrates the greatest potential to make our world a better place, based on the SDGs.

Last month, Ncell had also won two awards at the Global Business Outlook (GBO) Awards 2021. It was conferred the ‘Most Socially Responsible Telecom Company’ in the telecommunications category, and its CEO Andy Chong had won the ‘Telecom CEO of the Year’ under the leadership category of the GBO Awards.

The London-based publication’s GBO Awards seeks to recognise and reward excellence in businesses around the world. Companies are awarded for demonstrating advanced levels of creativity and innovation and their contribution to value creation at a local, regional, and international level.
