KATHMANDU: The government once again banned the import of peppercorns, peas, dates, and betel nuts.
The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) said that shipment of these goods will be allowed only to traders with permits and opened letter of credit accounts as of mid-July this year.
NRB has also asked banks and financial institutions (BFIs) not to consider new documents for transactions and payments in concern with the import of these goods.
The government, in March, had conditionally eased the restriction on the import of these farm products. Traders were allowed to import 15,000 tons each of betel nut and pepper and 5,000 tons of dates annually provided these goods are to be used for industrial purposes.
