CAAN plans to operate Gautam Buddha International Airport within next six months

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to operate Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) and Pokhara Regional International Airport (PRIA) within next one year. As per the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), preparations has been made to operate GBIA within next six months and the PRIA by next year.

Raj Kumar Kshetri, the spokesperson of the CAAN, informed that GBIA has achieved 97.33 percent physical progress so far and that the CAAN is preparing for calibration flight at the airport soon to test the runway, lighting system, air communication and radar, among other infrastructures of the project.

Despite an agreement with Thailand’s Aero Thai Company for a calibration flight at Gautam Buddha Airport, Kshetri said there was some delay due to the coronavirus (Covid-19).
