Industrialists request Energy Minister to resolve trunk and dedicated line tariff dispute

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) held a meeting with the newly-appointed Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal at the ministry.

On the occasion, Shekhar Golchha congratulated Bhusal for her appointment as minister on behalf of the FNCCI and urged Minister to resolve the ongoing trunk and dedicated line tariff dispute as soon as possible.

The FNCCI delegation apprised Minister Bhusal of the problems that the industrialists had been facing regarding the trunk and dedicated line of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Golchha mentioned that the industries had been paying NEA for the electricity that they had been consuming on a regular basis but the letters forwarded by the authority to industrialists asking them to clear dues worth millions of rupees had demotivated the industrialists.

The FNCCI delegation urged the energy minister to resolve this issue as early as possible. The delegation also apprised Minister Bhusal of the decisions taken regarding electricity tariff by the Electricity Tariff Determination Commission in its 103rd meeting held on January 13, 2016, and the 108th meeting held on June 30, 2016.

On the occasion, Minister Bhusal said that necessary decisions will be taken regarding this dispute by understanding the legal and other procedures. She expressed her commitment to make a decision after conducting necessary study on the issue of tariff for energy consuming industries.
