PM Oli inaugurates Upper Tamakoshi Hydro Project, electricity connected to national grid

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today inaugurated the much-hyped Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project and electricity produced by project has been connected to the national grid from today itself.

Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to inaugurate the hydro project through virtual medium from Baluwatar.

Bigyan Shrestha, Chief Executive Officer of Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Limited, informed that 76 MW of electricity from Tamakoshi will be connected to the national grid from tomorrow. The next 15 days will be the trial production period. After that, commercial production will start from Tamakoshi and NEA will start paying money to the company for electricity.

The project will generate 2.28 billion units of electricity annually. The project will earn Rs 9 billion annually from the sale of electricity. The project was estimated the initial cost of Rs 35 billion but due to various factors, including earthquake, border blockade, among other have tend to increase the project cost to nearly Rs 80 billion
