KATHMANDU: With less than a month for the current fiscal year to come to an end, the government has managed to spend merely 41 percent of the budget allocated for capital expenditure.
A huge volume of capital budget this year, like previous years, is certain to be underspent despite government’s repeated claims to meet the development budget expenditure targets.
Through the mid term review of the budget, the government had revised its target of capital expenditure to 85.9%. However, the government is unlikely to meet even its revised target.
The then Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada had brought a budget of Rs 1,474.6 billion for the current fiscal year. However, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, through the mid term review, had revised down the budget by Rs 130 billion.
As per statistics maintained by Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), government’s capital expenditure, as of today stands at 41.48 percent of the total allocation while expenditure under financing and recurrent stands at 42.34 percent and 74.5 percent of the allocation.
