Floods and landslides affects 26 hydropower projects across the country

KATHMANDU: Floods and landslides triggered by rainfall across the country have damaged a number of hydropower projects.

In fact, it is estimated that the under construction 44 MW Super Madi Hydropower Project in Madi of Kaski alone has caused a loss of over Rs 1 billion.

Independent Power Producers’ Association (IPPAN), informed that the floods have damaged at least 16 under construction projects and 10 projects generating electricity.

Krishna Prasad Acharya, president of IPPAN, informed that more than two dozen hydropower projects have been affected till Wednesday.

Super Madi Hydropower Project, Dordi Corridor, Marsyangdi Corridor and Madi Corridor, among others have witnessed significant physical damage, as per IPPAN.

Similarly, IPPAN also said that construction materials, equipment, dams, tunnels and other structures of the hydropower projects under construction have been damaged due to the landslide.
