KATHMANDU: The government has scrapped its previous order compelling the government not to levy penalties for non filing taxes, including Value Added Tax (VAT), throughout the prohibitory order.
A bench of justices Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Nahakul Subedi today decided to scrap the apex court’s previous order.
It was today itself that the Ministry of Finance (MoF) had registered a petition at the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to vacate the apex court’s recent order directing the government not to collect the tax and impose fines during the prohibitory order.
Earlier, a single bench of Justice Mira Khadka, had asked the government to give 30 days time even after the lockdown is lifted for taxpayers to file the tax and do not levy any fines and penalties throughout the period.
Advocate Srijana Adhikari had filed a writ petition in the apex court alleging that the government had imposed fine/penalty on on failure to pay tax on time.
