KATHMANDU: Though it has been just few months that Kathmandu dwellers started getting water from the Melamchi river, Melamchi Water Development Project is preparing to cut the supply at least for 40 days.
The project informed that it is preparing to inspect the tunnel by shutting off the Melamchi water from June 20, fot at least 40 days.
“This is regular technical work. We have to look at the structures of the tunnel which is necessary also to determines the quality of work of the construction company. Thus, supply of Melamchi water in Kathmandu Valley will be halted for some 40 days,” informed Rajendra Prasad Panta, senior divisional engineer of the project.
According to Pant, the tunnel will be cleared by shutting off the water. It is estimated that it will take about 15 days to clear the tunnel. After that, a joint team of the consulting company, technicians of the construction company and Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee will inspect the tunnel for a week.
If all the structures look fine, water will be added again while if any problem is seen, water will be filled only after repairing things. It will take another 15 days to fill the tunnel with water.
