Govt raises tax on alcohol, cigarette and tobacco products

KATHMANDU: The government has raised tax on cigarette, tobacco products through the budget for 2021-22.

The government has increased health risk tax being imposed on bidi, cigarette and tobacco products. While 25 paisa per unit health tax has been raised on imported and domestically produced bidi, 50 paisa per unit health tax has been raised on cigarette. Similarly, Rs 40 per kilogram health tax has been raised on tobacco products (Guthka, Surti, Khaini and Paan Masala).

Similarly, the government has also increased excise duty on alcohol, tobacco and other tobacco products.

The government has raised excise duties on beer, whiskey, wine and cigarettes. Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has increased the excise duty on these items through the budget.

The excise duty on beer has been increased from Rs 168 per liter to Rs 198 through the budget. The excise duty on wine has been increased from Rs 165 per liter to Rs 198 from the budget.

Similarly, the excise duty on 15 UP liquor has been raised to Rs 1,592. The excise duty has been increased to Rs 1,118 from Rs 990 per liter of 25 UP liquor. The excise duty on 30 UP liquor has been increased from Rs 920 to Rs 1,105.

The excise duty on other liquors has been increased from Rs 1,325 per liter to Rs 1,592. Now the price of a bottle of beer will increase by Rs 50. The price of World Durbar, Black Chimney, Master Selection will increase by Rs 400 per liter. Ruslan vodka and 8848 liters is estimated to increase by Rs 300.
