KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has directed the government not to levy penalties for non filing taxes, including Value Added Tax (VAT), throughout the prohibitory order.
Hearing on the writ petition filed by advocate Srijana Adhikari on Wednesday, a single bench of Justice Mira Khadka, asked the government to give 30 days time even after the lockdown is lifted for taxpayers to file the tax and do not levy any fines and penalties throughout the period.
Adhikari had filed a writ petition in the apex court alleging that the government had imposed fine/penalty on on failure to pay tax on time.
