KATHMANDU: Sugar mills have raised the price of sugar citing shortage of the product in the domestic market.
Traders say that sugar mills have hiked the price by up to Rs 8 per kilogram. Though sugar cost Rs 76 per kilogram on an average before the lockdown started, it has reached Rs 86 per kilogram today.
Not just sugar, but price of other food commodities have started to spike amidst the prohibitory order of the government. Taking benefit of the weak market inspection mechanism of the government, traders have been arbitrarily raising price of essential goods including food items.
