Govt sets ceiling on domestic flights from TIA

KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has set quota on the number of domestic flights to be allowed to operate from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) everyday.

The decision comes amid increasing coronavirus cases across the country. CAAN and airline operators had met today to discuss possible ways to reduce crowd in TIA and measures to avoid the risk of coronavirus infection.

With this, a total of 35 domestic (maximum) flights will be carried through TIA everyday. While Buddha Air has been given maximum quota of 18 flights a day, Yeti Airlines have been allowed to operate maximum of 10 flights a day. Similarly, Shree Airlines have been given a quota of 5 flights a day.

Meanwhile, airlines flying to remote regions can conduct maximum 2 flights a day.

The COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) had earlier recommended the government to suspend all domestic flights.
