KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has started importing electricity directly from the Indian energy market at competitive rates.
NEA started purchase of 200 to 250 megawatt electricity from the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) via Dhalkebar transmission line from Saturday.
IEX is India’s premier energy exchange providing a nationwide, automated trading platform for physical delivery of electricity, renewal power, renewal energy certificates and energy saving certificates.
With this, Nepal has become the first country in South Asia to enter the energy exchange market for electricity trade.
NEA is importing electricity from the Indian exchange market at Rs 3.81 per unit.
