Banks to open from 10AM to 2PM from Thursday

Credit crunch looms as commercial banks grapple with liquidity mismatch

KATHMANDU: Banks and financial institutions (BFIs) across districts where prohibitory orders of the government is being implemented will open for only four hours a day from Thursday.

Following discussions between NRB and bankers on Wednesday, an understanding has been made to open bank branches from 10am to 2pm from Thursday. However, banks, under instruction of the central bank, will take necessary decisions further based on the status of the COVID-19 transmission and the customer base.

However, all ATMs of the bank will be operational throughout the lockdown period.  Similarly, branches will be opened by fulfilling proper health safety criteria. Banks have also urged the general public to prioritize online banking services over visiting bank branches.

Currently, the government has decided to impose prohibitory order across dozens of districts, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.
