Adequate food in stock, do not panic: Govt

KATHMANDU: As the general public have started rushing to nearby grocery stores following the decision of the government to impose prohibitory order to contain the spread of coronavirus from Thursday, the government have urged public not to start panic buying of things as there are enough stock of essential goods in the country.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS) have stated that the government has stock of food capable to meet the demand for four months.

“There is nothing to panic as we have enough food in stock. Panic buying will instead deteriorate the demand-supply chain in the market,” said Urmila KC, deputy spokesperson of MoICS. the ministry.

As per her, the government has stock of over 10,000 tons of rice, 145,000 tons of salt, 75,156 tons of sugar and 760 tons of wheat in stock.
