Collect arrears of dedicated and trunk line within one month: PAC

KATHMANDU: Amid long battle between the industrialists and the government on dedicated trunk line fee, the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament has directed the government to collect the arrears of dedicated and trunk lines within a month.

Passing the report of the sub-committee with arrears of Rs 10.14 billion, the meeting of the committee on Sunday directed to collect the arrears within a month as per the law.

On 21 July 2021, the Public Accounts Committee formed a sub-committee under the coordination of Congress lawmaker Minendra Rijal to investigate the dedicated and trunk line. Lawmakers Pradip Yadav, Parvati Kumar Bishankhe, Surya Pathak and Tejulal Chaudhary were members of the sub-committee.

The sub-committee submitted its report to the main committee on Sunday.

The sub-committee has concluded that the law has not been complied with regarding the collection of dedicated and trunk line arrears.

The tariff collection regulation 2073 stipulates that the concerned customer has to pay the tariff within 35 days after the issuance of the discount bill or can be reviewed if he is not satisfied and if the customer does not pay the tariff within 60 days of meter reading.

However, the sub-committee has concluded that the Electricity Authority leadership has not implemented the Act.
