One year probation period for new driving license holders

KATHMANDU: The government is introducing a provision which requires new licence-holders to serve one year’s probation.

As per the Department of Transport Management (DoTM), the new provision will come into effect by June.

Namaraj Ghimire, director general at the department said that drivers and riders will be given a card that also has a QR code throughout the probation period. Whenever there is any traffic rule violation, the police will make a hole in the card.

In case the rider/driver has five or more holes in the card in one year, he/she will have to pass the driving licence exam again while if there are no or less than five holes, the rider will be issued driving licence after one year.
