Government to appoint 660 new custom agents

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to add 660 customs agents. The Department of Customs (DoC) today opened the application for those who want to get the license for customs agent.

The government has not recruit new customs agent since almost two decade. Yamlal Bhusal, Director General of the Customs Department, informed that the decision was taken taken to facilitate country’s trade and promote trade via legal channel.

According to the department, Nepali citizens who have completed 21 years of age can apply for a customs agent.

As of today, there are nearly 170 customs agents in Nepal. Though the government had time and again tried to appoint new custom agents, repeated attempts were unsuccessful.  As soon as Bishnu Poudel became the Finance Minister, he took initiative to add a customs agent.
