Govt receives China-aid COVID-19 vaccines

KATHMANDU: The Chinese government-donated COVID-19 vaccines have arrived in Kathmandu today.

Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi, handed over COVID-19 vaccines to the Minister for Health and Population (MoHP), Hridayesh Tripathi, amidst a special function organized at the Tribhuvan International Authority (TIA).

With this, the government is expected to restart the COVID vaccination drive which was temporarily halted owing to the delay in procurement of Covishield vaccines by the Serum Institute in India.

Prior to this, the Chinese government had announced a grant of 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Nepal.

“Nowadays Nepal is taking preemptive measures to prevent a possible second wave of coronavirus. We believe that this batch of vaccines will contribute to the Nepali government’s vaccination campaign and help prevent and control the pandemic and revive the economy,” said Yanqi.
