Govt declares Nepal self-sustained in livestock production

KATHMANDU: Nepal is now self-sustained in livestock production. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, on Thursday, declared the country self-reliant in powdered milk, butter, eggs and meat products.

Prem Narayan Kandel, secretary at Ministry of Livestock Development informed that announcement was made on the basis of the requirements of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the current state of livestock production in Nepal.

The livestock sector has 13 per cent contribution in the country’s GDP, and 60 per cent of the farmers are involved in livestock in Nepal
