KATHMANDU: Ramesh Bahadur has been recommended for the position of the attorney general of Nepal. President Bidya Devi Bhandari is going to appoint him in the position today.
The recommendation from the government comes hours after the resignation of incumbent Agni Kharel.
Badal is an official of the ruling CPN-UML’s trade union, the General Federation of Nepali Trade Unions. He had pleaded for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli during the recent hearing of the case against Oli’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives.
Sources say Kharel resigned because Oli was not satisfied with him after the Supreme Court rejected the government’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives last month. Kharel had led the team of government attorneys and private lawyers defending Oli’s decision.
But, speaking with the press this afternoon, Kharel said he decided to resign after consultation with the PM, and not due to any differences with him.
