Govt allocates Rs 1 billion to purchase COVID-19 vaccine

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has allocated an additional Rs 1 billion for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines.

The amount is in addition to previously allocated Rs 500 million for the purpose.

The government, which is into vaccination drive, intends to buy two million doses of Covishield vaccines from India’s Serum Institute. So far, Nepal has received vaccines in grant only and has not made any purchase.

Earlier, India had donated one million doses of the vaccine to Nepal under its #VaccineMaitri programme.
