KATHMANDU: Almost 75 per cent of the cottage and small enterprises in Nepal were shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as per a study carried by the Department of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies.
However, these enterprises are resuming operation gradually, states the report. Even among the surviving ones, the productivity has come down by up to 75 per cent.
Overall, 81.19 per cent of the enterprises came back to operation after the lockdown and prohibitory orders whereas 10.81 per cent are shut, according to the report.
Likewise, overall, 54 per cent of the enterprises reported a reduction of up to 50 per cent in their productivity whereas 32.43 per cent of the enterprises reported the productivity reduction up to 75 per cent.
The study had selected 17 cottage and micro enterprises, eight small enterprises, four medium enterprises, and eight big enterprises as samples.
