Infrastructure company to be set up under telecom’s initiation

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to form an telecommunication infrastructure company under the leadership of Nepal Telecom for the joint use of telecommunication infrastructure.

Discussions have started to set up an infrastructure company which will have NT’s majority share but will also include all other service providers in the share structure, informed Dilli Adhikari, managing director of NT.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is under discussion with internet service provider in forming an infrastructure company.

The Telecommunication Infrastructure Regulation 2074 of NTA has a provision to allow two private firms to form such infrastructure company through competition However, the regulations stipulate that an institution with more than 75 percent stake of the government can apply for a license to operate an infrastructure company at any time.
