KATHMANDU: The progress of the Kathmandu-Tarai Expressway, being managed by Nepali Army, has merely achieved 11.11 percent physical progress so far.
As per details provided by the Nepali Army, financial progress of the project is 9.52 percent so far as the only Rs 17.83 billion has been spent in the project.
The total cost of the project is estimated around Rs 175 billion. Expenditure in the project is seen low as construction of tunnels and bridges of special nature, which are considered as ‘milestones’ of the project, has not started.
As per Nepali Army, the main reasons for the delay of the project were lack of detailed project report, delay in approval of the report, delay in selection of international consultants and the COVID-19 pandemic.
