KATHMANDU: Despite scarcity of fertilizer during paddy plantation period, production of the cereal crop has increased by almost 71,000 tons in the current fiscal year compared to the last year.
As per the statistics released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD), country produced 5.621 million tonnes of paddy this year against 5.5 million tonnes produced last year.
According to the Ministry, paddy production increased by 1.26 percent primarily owing to favorable weather. Similarly, arable land for paddy this year had also increased.
Even during the lockdown period, somehow farmers arrange to plant paddy and despite the scarcity of fertilizer production has increased.
