As House dissolves, uncertainty looms over completion of Gautam Buddha Airport, Melamchi & Upper Tamakoshi Project

KATHMANDU: The fate of three game changing projects, Gautam Buddha International Airport, Melamchi Drinking Water Project and the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, has been uncertain following dissolution of the House of Representative.

Following House dissolution, different Ministries are without Ministers, including those at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ministry of Drinking Water and Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.

As Ministries handling the aforementioned projects are now without leadership, it will certainly hamper development of these projects which were nearing completion, as per officials.

“These projects will be affected especially at times when policy-level decisions has to be made,” said officials.

The Melamchi Drinking Water Project has achieved almost 98 percent work progress so far and only few works regarding ‘headwork’ is yet to be acomplished.

Similarly, the construction completion deadline of the Gautam Buddha International Airport is January, which is likely to be extended by next six month.

Likewise, the 456-megawatt Upper Tamakoshi Project is expected to start power generation from mid-June next year.
