KATHMANDU: A total of 220,120 tourists from several countries have visited Nepal in the last 11 months. The highest number of tourists has arrived in between January-March.
In January the government had inaugurated Visit Nepal 2020 campaign however, starting from the end of March month, the government imposed a lockdown in the country due to the covid-19 pandemic. After that, the number of tourists dropped in the country.
According to the data maintained by the Nepal Tourism Board, tourist arrivals have gradually increased since the government opened Nepal to tourists on October 17. According to the board, only 1,947 tourists visited Nepal in November.
Earlier, 1874 tourists had visited Nepal in October. According to the board, 447 tourists from the United States, 295 from the United Kingdom, and 209 from China visited Nepal in November.
There are statistics that 123 people came to Nepal from India and 102 from Russia. There are 58 visitors from Canada, 37 from Japan, 35 from South Korea, 34 from Australia, 33 from France, and 28 from Belgium.
The government had set a target of attracting two million tourists by 2020. However, with the coronavirus infection, the targeted visit year program has been canceled.
According to NTB, 79,686 tourists arrived in Nepal in January while in February 101,400 tourists arrived here. Similarly in March 34,025, on April 13, on May 30, in June 100, and in July 195 tourists arrived in Nepal.
Likewise, 268 tourists in August, 582 in September arrived in Nepal.
