KATHMANDU: Chandra Prasad Dhakal, one of the aspirants for the post of the senior vice-president at the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) says that his panel will witness a clear victory in the organization’s election slated for next week.
“Our assessment shows that we are clearly ahead. However, to elect or not elect any person is the sole responsibility of voters and they will decide it in the next one week,” states Dhakal.
FNCCI, the largest body representing the country’s private sector, is holding its 54th annual general meeting and election on November 26-28. Dhakal and industrialist Kishore Pradhan are in the race for the post of the senior vice-president with their respective panels.
Dhakal believes that no individual can shape the election result and it is only the voters who can do so. “I am contesting in the election with the confidence that industrialists across the country have planted in me. Thus, I do not find the election tough. It would have been tough if I was backed by political figures,” he mentions.
The FNCCI statute has a provision whereby the incumbent senior vice-president will directly be the organization’s president for the next tenure. This means that FNCCI’s current Senior Vice-President, Shekhar Golchha, will automatically become the organization’s president next week.
Though Dhakal believes that Golchha is a successful and able industrialist who has left a great mark in the country’s business community, he says that Golchha backing the other panel openly is not justifiable.
“At least the incoming president should not have backed any side and stayed neutral. However, he will have my full support throughout his tenure regardless of the election results,” adds Dhakal.
