FNCCI leadership should have put effort for consensus, but it didn’t happen: Chandra Dhakal

KATHMANDU: As the election of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) is approaching closer (November 26-28), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, one of the candidates for the senior vice-presidential post at the organization said that there is minimal chances for consensus and filling the senior vice-president post unanimously.

“I believe and support election through consensus, coordination and understanding. This is necessary to maintain and boost the strength of the private sector and the legacy of FNCCI. However, it did not happen,” said Dhakal.

As per him, incumbent president of FNCCI, its immediate past president and upcoming president should have put effort to forge consensus since the beginning. “However, this is not the case.”

As the FNCCI statute has a provision whereby the senior vice-president of the organization automatically becomes the president in the next election, the election for the post of senior vice president is at the center.

Industrialists and vice presidents of FNCCI Kishore Pradhan and Chandra Prasad Dhakal are in the race for the senior vice-president post and industrialist Pradhan is openly backed by upcoming president Shekhar Golchha, incumbent president Bhawani Rana and immediate past president Pashupati Murarka.

“With such scenario, there is minimal chance for consensus,” added Dhakal.

Dhakal also stressed on the need to take forward the legacy of FNCCI and issues of the private sector through team efforts in a coordinated manner. “No matter in which panel we are today, all such panel will end after the election and we should work together for the betterment of the private sector, economy and development,” believes Dhakal.
