Govt raises Rs 57 billion internal debt in four months

KATHMANDU: The government has raised Rs 57 billion in internal debt in the first four months of the current fiscal year.

With this, the government has also met the internal debt  collection target set for the initial four months of 2020-21. While the government raised Rs 50 billion through development bonds, it raised Rs 7 billion through treasury bills to meet the target.

As there is more liquidity in the financial system this year compared to the last year, the government has been able to raise internal borrowings at low interest rates.

The government has set a target of raising Rs 225 billion in internal debt in the current fiscal year. Accordingly, the government planned to raise Rs 57 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year, Rs 56 billion in the second four months and Rs 112 billion in the last four months.
