Banks to remain close for three days during Tihar

Credit crunch looms as commercial banks grapple with liquidity mismatch

KATHMANDU: Citing increasing risk of COVID-19 among its staffs, banks have decided to shut their operation for three days during Tihar festival, which starts from Thursday.

Nepal Bankers Association (NBA), the umbrella organization representing 27 commercial banks, decided to close all bank branches from November 14 to November 16. As per NBA, more than 6,000 staffs of commercial banks alone have been infected with the COVID-19 so far.

As digital banking and ATM services will be uninterrupted, NBA have requested public to go for it instead of visiting bank offices.
