French company likely to get responsibility of printing e-passports

KATHMANDU: IDEMIA, a French multinational tech company, is likely to get the responsibility of printing e-passports.

The company won the tender of printing the e-passports that was called by the Department of Passport on September 24. Among the seven foreign companies that participated in the bidding process, IDEMIA won the tender with the lowest bid of Rs 2.48 billion.

Prior to this too the company had participated in the bidding twice when the tenders were called. As per the department, the company’s bid amount for the first tender was Rs 3.12 billion. The company had submitted a bid the second time too.

The company was unable to submit sufficient documents when the department invited a bid to print two million e-passports the first time. In the second attempt, all the bidders failed to meet the required qualifications as a result of which the second tender was cancelled in September.

The department has issued a notice asking the company to communicate with the department within seven days to sign the agreement. Director of the Department of Passport, Rajendra Pandey, said, “If the selected company fails to sign the agreement within the stipulated time the contract will be awarded to the second lowest bidder.”
