KATHMANDU: The export of ginger from Nepal has increased by 17 percent in the first two months of the current fiscal year.
The country exported 2.87 million kg of ginger from mid-July to mid-September, according to the statistics maintained by the Trade and Export Promotion Center. The data shows that the ginger worth Rs 138.47 million was exported in the review period.
In the corresponding period of the last fiscal year, a total of 2.259 million kg of ginger worth Rs 118.35 million was exported. Therefore, the country’s ginger export has surged by 17 percent in the current fiscal.
In total, the country in the last fiscal year exported 8.886 million kg of ginger worth Rs 812 million.
Based on available data, the production of ginger, which is also one of the country’s export priority products and listed in the Nepal Trade Integration Strategy, has not been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
In terms of ginger production, Nepal ranks third in the world, after China and India. The country mainly exports ginger to its southern neighbor India.
