Pvt sector appeals: No further lockdown, please!

KATHMANDU: The private sector today have requested the government not to impose lockdown in the future but search some other ways to contain the spread of the COVID-19.

Meeting the Minister for Health and Population Bhanubhakta Dhakal, representatives of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) requested the government to end the lockdown modality to cope the pandemic citing that constant lockdown has affected business and the economy largely.

Earlier, the government had said that there could be another lockdown if active cases of COVID-19 exceeds 25,000.

“The six month long lockdown have already brought businesses into standstill. Businesses are not in position to withstand more lockdown,” said Rajesh Kaji Shrestha, president of NCC.

Meanwhile, Minister Dhakal assured that there will not be lockdown like before despite increasing COVID-19 cases. “If active COVID-19 case exceeds 25,000, the government will adopt some other measures over imposing the lockdown,” said Dhakal.
