NAC says Nepali pilots being paid more than foreign pilots

KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (Nepal Airlines) has stated that Nepali pilots are now paid more than the foreign pilots.
Issuing a press statement, NAC informed that the minimum salary of Nepali pilots has been increased along with the reduction of the contract period of foreign pilots who have been asked to stay on unpaid leave during the coronavirus pandemic.

NAC has refuted the news published in various media that foreign pilots are being paid more than domestic pilots. It reiterated that the news was false and baseless. The corporation has also objected to the news that foreign pilots are assigned more flights than the Nepali pilots.

The corporation said that both Nepali and foreign pilots have played an important role in bringing necessary health supplies to the country and repatriating Nepalis who had been stranded in different countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the data for the month of July, Nepali pilots were paid a minimum salary of Rs 529,187 while only Rs 480,000 was paid to foreign pilots.

As per the statement, it has already reduced the service facilities and remuneration of foreign pilots by 50 to 60 percent since April. Also, the contract of seven foreign pilots which had expired was not renewed and only six foreign pilots have been retained for now. Moreover, the contract period of the pilots was also shortened.

As per the decision of the corporation’s Board of Directors, it has allocated a monthly salary of $4,000 and accommodation cost of $1,000 to foreign pilots.

NAC also informed that the contract of one foreign pilot of Airbus 330 has been terminated and another pilot has been placed on leave.
